Accelerated Math children have been working with compasses to create circles. First, we learned about concentric circles (top left). They are the kind which resemble a target; they never touch.
Then we learned about nonconcentric circles. These do intersect. When combined into a group of six, they make a beautiful pattern resembling the petals of a flower.
On Friday, we inscribed hexagons on a circle. Those pictures will be coming soon. But, didn't the children do a fine job creating circles? I'm so proud of them!

Yeah, it was a lot of fun! I loved making the cool designs out of a compass! It was so cool! Mine is the pink and black one. Shreya's is the other colored one. And I don't know the others.
Rach is me, it is meant to be Rachel Samojedny but I did it for short but yeah, it was very fun and cool, I wish we could do it the whole year!
we were trying to take a picture of a great spider web yesterday - harrison noticed how the spider did such an amazing job of weaving concentric circles! unfortunately, the camera couldn't really "see" the spider web, but it was a cool thing to observe :)

I hope it wasn't the same spider web Mr. Smith said he saw in our backyard. Apparently it was about four feet across. I do not want to meet that spider even if she can create mathematical webs! ;) ~Mrs. Smith
I really liked doing those circles. It was so fun!!
yeah, i agree, i miss the compasses, I wish we could do it the whole year!
